Welcome to the Workers' Comp Exchange. This site is for the exchange of information and commentary
about workers'compensation issues. Much of the material covered will be basic in nature. Although
we hope to be a forum for learning, our goal is not necessarily to cover topics you don't know anything
about. We would rather put a different slant on things. Hopefully this
approach will help you become more persuasive when the time comes to present your ideas to peers,
bosses, customers, or whoever.
Workers' Comp Information Sources
There are many organizations and publications that can be extremely useful to anyone who wants to
learn about workers' compensation. We don't pretend to know about all of them, but would like to
pass on some information about a few we have found to be particularly valuable.
Organizations
The National Council on Compensation Insurance, Inc. (NCCI)
Located in Boca Raton, Florida NCCI is the nation's largest information company serving the workers
compensation marketplace. They wrote the book on workers' compensation insurance policies (literally).
In addition to providing rate making, statistical, and experience modification information to insurance
companies and governmental agencies, NCCI also publishes excellent inexpensive booklets which explain
the various factors that affect workers' comp insurance premiums. NCCI also publishes short loss
control booklets which are occasionally available for free download on their web site.

The Workers' Compensation Research Institute (WCRI)
Located in Cambridge, Massachusetts WCRI sponsors in depth research projects about various workers' comp
subjects. They also publish a series of state by state in depth overviews which tell you everything you
want to know about workers' compensation systems, laws, and regulatory agencies in various states.
For More Information Contact:
The International Association of Industrial Accident Boards and Commissions (IAIABC)
An acronym that is too long to pronounce and too short to be a telephone number. The IAIABC serves the
needs of the workers compensation system through promoting efficient and far sighted regulation and
administration of the law. The organization produces publications, leads a national effort to
standardize First Reports of Injury and promote electronic data interchange between insurers and state
jurisdictions, and sponsors the annual workers' compensation college for the purpose of providing an
intensive, five day course of study in the field of workers compensation.

Newsletters
On Workers' Compensation
If you can only subscribe to one newsletter, this has gotta be it. Published by Ed (not bad for a
former plaintiff's attorney) Welch, this monthly newsletter is an invaluable and well written source
of information, analysis, and ideas for anyone who is involved in workers' compensation risk management.
For More Information Contact:
BNA Workers' Compensation Report
If you can only subscribe to two newsletters, this should be the other one. Published by the Bureau of
National Affairs, this bi-weekly publication is indispensable if you need to keep up with anything or
everything that happens in workers' compensation, anywhere in the USA.

Books
Workers' Comp Management from A to Z by Nancy Nivison Menzel
A step by step blueprint for employers to follow in implementing and managing a workers' compensation
management program. In our opinion, this is the very best book out on this topic.
For More Information Contact:
Employer's Guide to Workers' Compensation by Edward M. Welch
More good stuff from Ed Welch. He doesn't leave anything out in this comprehensive volume.
For More Information Contact:
Workers' Compensation Yearbookedited by John Burton and Timothy Schmidle
Containing highlights from the respected newsletter, John Burton's Workers' Compensation Monitor,
the articles are much more in depth and scholarly than you will find in On Workers' Compensation, but
not as readable. Also contains a treasure chest of statistical tables that on their own are worth the
high price of this annual book.
